As many are no doubt aware, Goodale Pond was filled the last three days of September. That allowed an initial testing of the pumps which revealed a problem with the placement of the Ground Fault Interrupters (GFIs) within the electrical design; and a problem with the flow regulators which necessitated the addition of transducers for them to operate properly. Over the past two weeks, there have been numerous consultations between the electrician, the water engineer and the pump manufacturer to arrive at a solution.

All are now in agreement that the design modifications will resolve the issues with the pumps. It remains a matter of ordering parts and completing the installation. Once, the installation is completed (and water is in the pond), the pumps will be tested and inspected, and any final adjustments on the elephants will occur. Then the scaffolding can be dismantled, remaining silicone
applied, and the fountain construction will be completed.

Of course the pumps are not the only problem. While the pond was filled by 8 a.m. Saturday, October 1, the next day, it was clear that the water level had dropped significantly and continued to do so as the days passed. The project team is in the process of eliminating possible variables including paying close attention to the condition of the clay liner that exists throughout the pond. The contractor (Columbus Art Memorial) is consulting with a pond specialist in an effort to resolve the problem. In addition, Columbus Recreation and Parks will consult with the contractor who drained and cleaned the pond last fall. Hopefully, these consultations will result in a plan to resolve the leak and implementation of the plan will occur within the very near future.

The FGP Fountain Committee continues to meet with the contractor and artist on two week intervals in an effort to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. Please be patient as none are more anxious than we are to see this addition to Goodale Park completed and become a signature element of the park.
